What to Expect at a Spa: A Beginner’s Guide

Are you planning on treating yourself to your very first spa day, but you have no clue what you’re in for? Planning a day at the spa is the ultimate luxury, and if you’ve never been to a spa, you can certainly look forward to it.

However, going to a spa for the first time can be exciting and a little daunting, especially if you aren’t familiar with the treatments or spa etiquette.

At BonBerry Royal Spa we strive to make your spa experience as smooth, relaxing, and stress-free as possible. Whatever brings you to see us, whether it’s a massage, facial, or full-body treatment, we are dedicated to ensuring you are relaxed the moment you step through our doors. After you have booked your spa appointment, it is a good idea to do some research about the treatments offered at the spa so that you can choose one that is appropriate for what you are trying to accomplish.

This guide will reassure you and walk you through what to expect when you are here so that you can focus on what matters most: feeling great.

What To Bring with You To a Spa

The worst thing is to arrive unprepared. You will want to have two different bags, one to bring to the spa, and one that you can leave in your room if you are staying overnight. Robes and towels are often supplied, but there are a few things that you might want to bring with you.

If you’re spending the day at a destination spa like BonBerry Royal Spa, you can compare planning for a spa day to planning for a beach day. Being equipped with a spa bag with your swimsuit, a change of clothes just in case, flip-flops, your favourite book, sunglasses, and sunblock will help make your day less stressful and enjoyable.

For those with long hair, you may want to ensure that you bring a hairband with you so that you can tie your hair back when swimming or receiving a massage. You can bring two swimsuits in case you wish to change from a one-piece to a bikini for your treatment if you do not want to wear those awful paper pants.

During Treatments at the Spa

If this is a new treatment or one you’re unfamiliar with, you can be expected to be introduced to the do’s and don’ts, as well as given time to ask any questions or voice any concerns you might have.

It is essential that you are relaxed, so please don’t hesitate to notify the therapist if you are uncomfortable with pressure or a part of your body during treatment as our therapists are there to cater to your needs.

Usually, you’ll be left in the massage room to slip out of your robe and hoist yourself onto the table to lie on your stomach under a sheet. They’ll knock lightly on the door to see if you’re ready and your hour of bliss will begin. When they need you to roll over, they will stand in front of you holding the towel with their own face covered so you roll over and are again underneath the towel.

Be Respectful Towards Others During Your Spa Day

Be mindful of other spa visitors. Shower first before making use of shared areas such as the sauna or the pool. Use the changing room unobtrusively and don your robe to be respectful of other people’s comfort. You are not in your own bathroom, remember, so be mindful in terms of intimate proximity. In respect of a peaceful environment, please switch off or silence your mobile phone and speak softly.
